When I finished dental assisting school I thought I learned everything I needed to know but after my first week, I realized school only scratched the surface. The other day Doc asked me to assist on a filling. I thought I’d know what to do but once we got started I realized that the procedure on paper was way different from the one in front of me. Because everyones teeth are different, there are literally a hundred ways to do a basic filling. The steps and tools to use that I learned didn’t really apply in this case. School taught me the basics but now I get to piece everything together and see how each patient comes with their own unique procedure.- Allyson
