Whatever you do, do it well. Do it so well that when people see you do it they will want to come back and see you do it again and they will want to bring others and show them how well you do what you do.
According to the interweb, that quote was from Mr. Walt Disney, and if there is anyone who knew how to deliver an experience it was that man. So what does Mr. Disney’s words have to do with Dee for Dentist. Well, on Tuesday I had one of those great moments where a patient confirms that all the hard work we put in and the way we have chosen to treat our patients has been the right one all along.
Tuesday was a heck of a day. It was the start of a new month, we had just finished a lunch staff meeting going over what we learned from last weeks dental seminar, and then we went right back to drilling and filling. About midway through the afternoon, a great long-time patient was scheduled in my chair for an exam. I’ve been treating this patient practically since the day I got my license and way before we started Dee for Dentist. He always kept his regular visits but over the last few months he has fallen off of his hygiene routine and was unusually evasive the last time I saw him, which was for an implant consultation. As fate would have it, I would find out why today.
I came into the room to do his exam and that’s when he stopped me and said. “I have to be honest with you, after my last visit I tried out a different dentist. The treatment plan you gave me at the last visit for implants seemed expensive and I’d seen an ad for cheaper implants so I checked them out. After 1 visit with them, I am back and I am never leaving you again! Comparing this office and team to the other was like night and day and the cleaning I got at “Yadda Yadda Dentistry” was nothing compared to the ones I get here!” Yay for Dee for Dentist – and Kristen especially!
When we started Dee for Dentist, we decided that this practice would focus on providing the highest level of care and service, using premier products and materials, and committing to ongoing education to ensure that we operated on the cutting edge of dentistry. To be honest, at times this is a hard road to walk. We understand that cost is a serious concern for many of our patients and we also understand that committing to the highest standard of care could raise the cost of treatment. So when it comes to making decisions like this, we always revert back to the Golden Rule – what would we choose for ourselves? For me and my family, I would choose quality over cost every time, especially when it comes to something as important as our health.
So moments like yesterday are a great validator that we are moving in the right direction. And honestly, I’m not even upset that this patient went somewhere else for an opinion. He’s been with us so long that in his own words he had taken us for granted. And through this process, it opened up a conversation for us to talk about the risks and benefits of his implant procedure.
Although no dentist can or should 100% guarantee a successful procedure, the skills and technology we use, the 3D scans and custom surgical guides, can help minimize risks and maximize the chances for successful implant integration. The premier brand implant companies we partner with, like Straumann, stand behind their products the same way we stand behind our work. In the end, this patient saw the value of not just the implant, but of the entire treatment and level of care that we are going to provide throughout the process to restore his smile.
